Building Vetnio with IVC Evidensia

Today, Dagens Industri broke the news of the largest AI deal in the history of veterinary medicine. Evidensia, the global leader in veterinary care with over 2,500 clinics and 41,000 employees, is partnering with Vetnio in Sweden, Spain and Portugal.
This is the story behind that deal. It begins in late 2024, before Vetnio was a company, before there was a product, and before AI for veterinary medicine existed as a category in Europe.
A shared question
The question that started this was simple: how do we give vets their time back?
Veterinary medicine is under pressure. Vets carry an admin burden that has roughly doubled in a decade, alongside the clinical work they trained for. The question wasn't whether AI could help — it was how to build something that actually fit how veterinary medicine is practiced, in the languages and clinical contexts of European vets, without adding to the workload of the people it was meant to serve.
In late 2024, Evidensia took that question seriously. They invited our team to live and work inside one of their largest hospitals for two months alongside their veterinarians. From there it kept moving — different clinics, different specialties, different ways of working.
Evidensia were clear from the beginning that exploring this together couldn't add to the vets' workload. So their vets gave feedback whenever they had time, between patients, in whatever form was easiest in the moment. Their operations team took it from there — the collecting, the structuring, the synthesis, the back-and-forth with us.
They built the process around the vets' day, not around the project. That choice — made early, held throughout — is what made everything else possible.
The partnership starts in Sweden, Spain and Portugal. Vetnio is now active across 20+ countries the Nordics, Iberia, Benelux, the German-speaking countries and beyond.
The mission is the same as day one: let vets be vets. We want to say the rest is history. We know it's just the beginning of what AI does for veterinary medicine.
Thank you to the vets, nurses, clinic leaders, project coordinators and everyone else at Evidensia working on this with us — for letting us into your day and teaching us your work.
